With the theme, “Actors Beyond the Screen: Impacting Communities, Transforming Lives,” this year’s celebration seeks to highlight the actor not only as an entertainer, but also as a contributor to society, a community builder and an agent of positive change.
The AGN says the celebration will feature a range of activities, including community service and outreach programmes, social networking engagements, actors’ hangouts, industry interactions, goodwill activities and other initiatives designed to promote camaraderie, professional networking and actors’ welfare.
The theme reflects a growing emphasis on the social responsibility of creative professionals and the potential of Nigerian actors to use their visibility, influence and resources to make meaningful contributions to society.
Over the years, Nigerian actors have played a major role in the growth and global recognition of Nollywood. Beyond their performances, they have used their platforms to raise awareness on social issues, support communities, champion charitable causes and inspire millions of Nigerians and audiences around the world.
Speaking ahead of the celebration, AGN National President, Alhaji Abubakar Sanusi Yakubu, commended Nigerian actors for their sacrifices, resilience and commitment to the growth of Nollywood.
He noted that the remarkable journey of the Nigerian film industry would not have been possible without the talent, courage and perseverance of its actors.
The AGN President called on Nollywood guilds and associations, industry stakeholders, governments at all levels, corporate organisations, development partners and well-meaning Nigerians to support the celebration and contribute to initiatives that advance the welfare of actors and the wider creative industry.
He stressed that International Actors Day should go beyond entertainment, describing it as an opportunity to strengthen solidarity, promote partnerships, advance actors’ welfare and demonstrate the transformative power of the creative sector.
The 2026 celebration is therefore expected to shine a spotlight on the many ways actors can make an impact beyond the screen—touching lives, strengthening communities and contributing to national development.
As Nigeria joins the global creative community to celebrate actors on August 26, the AGN is inviting stakeholders and members of the public to celebrate not only the performances that entertain audiences, but also the people behind them who are using their voices, influence and talents to make a difference.
