Former Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) President, Emeka Rollas, has opened up about the reasons behind his public apology to Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, her mother, Rita Daniels, Senator Ned Nwoko and several industry colleagues over remarks he made during the actress’s highly publicised marital crisis in November 2025.
Rollas issued the apology on Thursday, October 8, 2026, acknowledging that although he had strong convictions about the issues he raised at the time, he regretted the timing, platform and manner in which he addressed them.
According to reports, a recent chance encounter with Rita Daniels, during which mutual acquaintances attempted to reconcile them, became a turning point in his decision to reflect on the controversy.
In his statement, the former AGN president admitted that he had spoken about a deeply personal family matter at a difficult time and could have handled the situation differently.
He acknowledged that being convinced about an issue did not necessarily mean he had approached it appropriately.
“I regret the timing, the platform and the manner in which I handled it,” Rollas stated, reflecting on his comments from the previous year.
WHAT TRIGGERED THE CONTROVERSY?
In November 2025, Rollas publicly weighed in on the dispute between Regina Daniels and her estranged husband, Ned Nwoko.
At the time, he said the actress needed help and claimed he had witnessed incidents involving concerns raised about her alleged smoking habits. He also expressed disappointment with several senior Nollywood actors whom he said had witnessed some of the incidents but had not spoken publicly.
His comments extended to Rita Daniels, whom he criticised over her involvement in the AGN leadership contest while questions surrounding her daughter's wellbeing were attracting public attention.
Rollas also addressed claims concerning Nwoko's financial contributions to the guild, adding another dimension to an already contentious episode involving the entertainment industry's leadership and relationships.
The remarks generated reactions from different quarters, drawing attention to the delicate balance between professional responsibility, personal relationships and public commentary on sensitive family matters.
WHY HE DECIDED TO APOLOGISE
In his latest statement, Rollas explained that reflecting on the incident helped him recognise that his approach was not one he was proud of.
He also acknowledged that the people he addressed were individuals with whom he had worked and, in some cases, maintained friendships.
Beyond Regina and her family, his apology extended to members of the AGN Board of Trustees and colleagues, including Okey Bakassi, Charles Inojie, Chinyere Wilfred, Jide Kosoko, Sanni Danji, Agility and Nazareth Jesse.
He stressed that the apology came without conditions or expectations that those involved must accept it.
Rollas also made it clear that while he might still hold some of the convictions behind his original comments, he accepted responsibility for his actions and the timing of his intervention.
A LESSON IN LEADERSHIP AND RECONCILIATION
Perhaps the most significant aspect of Rollas' apology was his acknowledgement that leadership requires more than the courage to speak out. It also demands the humility to recognise when a different approach would have been more appropriate.
He said he wanted to move forward with peace, reconciliation, dignity and respect.
His statement offers a reminder of the consequences of public commentary, particularly when personal crises intersect with professional relationships and the influence of prominent figures in the entertainment industry.
Whether Regina Daniels, Rita Daniels, Ned Nwoko and the other individuals named will accept the apology remains their decision.
For now, Rollas has publicly acknowledged his regrets, signalling a desire to move beyond the controversy that placed him and several Nollywood personalities at the centre of a heated public debate.
As the dust settles, one question remains: Will the apology open the door to reconciliation, or will the controversy continue to shape relationships within Nollywood?
