Access Bank Dismisses Shutdown Rumours, Reassures Customers of Stability

Access Bank Plc has dismissed widespread rumours claiming the financial institution is preparing to shut down operations, describing the reports as false, misleading and deliberately designed to create panic among customers and the general public.

In a statement, the bank assured customers, partners, shareholders and other stakeholders that it remains financially strong and fully operational across all its subsidiaries, stressing that banking services continue without interruption.

According to the bank, the viral message circulating on social media and WhatsApp was falsely presented as an official communication from Access Bank with the intention of undermining public confidence and disrupting business activities.

"We wish to reassure our customers, partners, stakeholders and the general public that Access Bank is safe, financially strong and fully operational across all our subsidiaries. Our services continue to run seamlessly, and we remain committed to serving our customers with the highest standards of excellence," the statement said.

The bank disclosed that it is working closely with regulatory and law enforcement agencies to identify those responsible for creating and circulating the false information. It warned that appropriate legal action would be taken against individuals found culpable in line with existing laws.

Access Bank further reminded the public that the deliberate creation and dissemination of false information capable of causing panic or damaging confidence in institutions is an offence under Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) (Amendment)

The lender urged customers to disregard the fake message and rely only on information published through its official and verified communication channels, while advising the public not to forward unverified reports capable of causing unnecessary alarm.

The clarification comes amid growing concerns over the impact of misinformation on public confidence in financial institutions, with the bank reaffirming its commitment to delivering secure, reliable and uninterrupted banking services to millions of customers across Nigeria and its international operations.
