BREAKING: How Joel Opute Was Elected Chairman, AGN Edo State Chapter

There was widespread jubilation across Edo State as Joel Opute was officially re-elected Chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Edo State chapter.

Mr. Opute was declared winner following the election held on Friday, May 1, conducted by the Actors Guild of Nigeria Electoral Commission (AGNEC).

According to the AGNEC Chairman, Osanyande Onaghise, Opute secured a total of 79 votes, surpassing the constitutional requirement, and was duly returned as Chairman. The election, in which he emerged unopposed, was described as peaceful, transparent, and credible.

The exercise also attracted cross-state solidarity and industry oversight. Two state chairmen—Kenneth Osunwa of Rivers State and Patricia Ezekiel of Adamawa State—were present to support their re-elected colleague. Observers from the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN) and the Creative Designers Guild of Nigeria (CDGN) also monitored the process.

Reacting to the outcome, the AGN Vice President, South-South, Dr. Barthelomew Oguugo, commended the electoral committee for conducting what he described as one of the most orderly elections in the state. He also acknowledged the support of the AGN National President, Sanusi Abubakar Yakubu, noting that the directive for a free, fair, and rancor-free process was fully upheld.

“This is a good omen for our Guild,” he stated. “The process reflects the unity and maturity of our members in Edo State. Congratulations to the leadership and the entire AGN family.”

In his acceptance speech, a visibly elated Opute expressed gratitude to members for renewing his mandate.

“One good term deserves another. I am truly humbled by the confidence reposed in me,” he said. “We will continue to work collectively to strengthen and reposition our Guild. I remain loyal and committed to the leadership of our President.”
