Kanayo O. Kanayo Urges AGN to Implement Lifetime Royalties for Nigerian Actors

Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has called on the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) to take bold steps toward protecting actors’ intellectual property by introducing lifetime royalties for performances in films and TV productions.

Speaking at a recent industry forum, Kanayo highlighted the urgent need for a sustainable model that ensures actors continue to benefit financially from their work long after a project is released. 

He argued that, as Nigerian cinema grows globally, actors deserve recognition—and revenue—that reflects the enduring value of their craft.

“This is about fairness and respect for the industry we’ve built,” Kanayo said. “Our contributions shouldn’t just enrich producers; actors must share in the long-term rewards of their work.”

Industry insiders say this move could set a precedent for royalties and residuals, aligning Nollywood more closely with global entertainment standards where performers continue to earn from re-broadcasts, streaming, and syndication.
