In a video shared online, the Nollywood director disclosed that he spent about ₦11 million on diesel within just four to five weeks to power operations at KAP Village, one of his business ventures.
According to Afolayan, the sharp increase in diesel prices now around ₦1,500 per litre has made it extremely difficult for him to sustain operations.
“I have been sad because I can’t cope with ₦1,500 per litre for diesel. In one of the businesses that I run, KAP Village, I spent ₦11 million in just 4–5 weeks on diesel,” he said.
The filmmaker explained that although the facility has solar power installed, the cost of running the business remains high, especially in Lagos, where many businesses depend heavily on generators due to unreliable electricity supply.
He also noted that diesel prices have surged from about ₦1,000 to over ₦1,500 per litre, worsening the burden for companies particularly when fuel is purchased on credit and paid for later.
Afolayan appealed to financial institutions and government agencies to provide accessible loans that would help businesses upgrade their solar infrastructure and reduce dependence on diesel.
