Here are five key facts that define the man now at the helm of the Nigeria Police Force:
1. Intelligence-Led Recovery of Internationally Stolen Devices
In one of his widely commended operations, intelligence reports traced stolen foreign devices to Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos. Acting swiftly, Disu coordinated a precise operation that led to the recovery and return of the stolen items.
The move earned commendation from South African authorities and reinforced Lagos’ image as a city capable of combating sophisticated transnational crime networks.
2. Instrumental to Lagos’ Security Recognition
Disu’s leadership within the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) significantly boosted Lagos State’s security profile. In 2016, Security Watch Africa recognised Lagos as one of Africa’s safest states.
Under his watch, the RRS was also honoured as the best anti-crime police unit in West Africa — a testament to disciplined coordination, rapid deployment strategies and intelligence-backed policing.
3. Decisive Crackdown on Violent Cultism in Rivers
As Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Disu confronted one of the region’s most destabilising threats violent cult groups terrorising communities.
His command led to the neutralisation of notorious cult leader Gift Okpara, popularly known as “2Baba,” the prime suspect in the 2023 killing of Divisional Police Officer Bako Angbashim in Ahoada East Local Government Area.
The operation involved coordinated land offensives and aerial surveillance, restoring a measure of calm and reinforcing public confidence in law enforcement across troubled communities.
4. Strategic, Coordinated Security Operations
Disu’s policing style is defined by strategic intelligence, inter-agency collaboration and rapid tactical execution. His operational model consistently combines ground intelligence, technology-driven tracking and coordinated enforcement an approach security analysts say will be critical in tackling Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
5. Champion Judoka and Decorated Officer
Beyond the badge, Disu is a disciplined athlete with decades of commitment to judo. At the U.S. Open Judo championship, he clinched a silver medal, competing against over 500 international athletes.
He began practising judo in 1986 and has won multiple medals, including two gold medals at the National Sports Festival.
He has also secured honours at the Nigerian Police and Armed Forces Games, and in 2021 won gold at the Nigerian Police Veterans Championship.
