AGN Congratulates Toyin Abraham’s Box Office Feat, Hails New Era of Nollywood Excellence

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has congratulated Nollywood star Toyin Abraham-Ajeyemi on her remarkable box office achievement, describing it as a defining moment for the Nigerian film industry.

Speaking at the presentation of the Box Office Champion Award in Lagos on Thursday, the AGN President, Alhaji Sanusi Abubakar Yakubu, who was represented by the Director of Policy & Implementation, Don Pedro Aganbi, said the actress’s record-breaking success signals a new era of creativity, enterprise, and global relevance for Nollywood.

According to Abubakar, the milestone—driven by the massive ₦1.6 billion performance of Oversabi Aunty—goes beyond commercial success, reflecting the growing strength and evolving dynamics of Nigeria’s film industry.

He noted that Toyin Abraham-Ajeyemi has not only excelled as an actress but has emerged as a visionary storyteller and investor, helping to reshape the economic and creative landscape of Nollywood.

“Today, we celebrate not just numbers, but a powerful shift—where our actors are becoming full-spectrum creators, owning narratives, driving productions, and influencing the financial architecture of the industry,” Abubakar said.

The AGN leadership emphasized that such achievements are a product of discipline, innovation, and a deep understanding of audience engagement, adding that the industry is witnessing a transition into a more data-driven and commercially astute ecosystem.

The award ceremony was organised by the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), whose Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Shuaibu Husseini, described the feat as “historic for Nollywood.”

Husseini stated that the recognition underscores the industry’s expanding contribution to Nigeria’s economy and its increasing global visibility.

“This accomplishment is not only a personal triumph but a testament to the industry’s growing strength. You have entertained millions and inspired others to dream bigger,” he said.

Drawing inspiration from literary icons such as Chinua Achebe and Ben Okri, the AGN representative highlighted the transformative power of storytelling, noting that Nigerian narratives are now commanding global attention and shaping cultural identity on a larger scale.

In her remarks, a delighted Toyin Abraham-Ajeyemi expressed appreciation to her team and supporters, describing the recognition as the fulfillment of a long-standing dream.

The event attracted key stakeholders across the creative industry, including the president of Association of Movie Producers, Queen Blessing Ebigieson, Vice president of Directors Guild of Nigeria, Grace-Okon, Ace Filmmaker, Sam Uche Anyamele and Olori Temitope Ogunwusi, wife of Oni of Ife, who served as Royal mother of the day underscoring the significance of the occasion.
